The Issue of Mold in Katy Homes
So, you purchased real estate in Katy in the last year. Since moving into this Katy home you and other family members have experienced unusually long sickness including allergies and possibly even pneumonia. Upon consulting your Doctors and after months of treatments the only thing that they believe is causing these new and persistent health issues is your new home environment.
With this knowledge you decide to investigate the health of your Katy home to see what potential allergens lurked beneath your feet, in your walls, or in your attic. To your dismay… mold had grown not in one small area but throughout the walls and flooring of your Katy home. What are you to do?

1. Did you have the home inspected?
If you had the home inspected and no mold was found… your legal standing will have diminished somewhat. However, keep in mind that even if you had the home inspected it is very likely that mold would not have been detected. Mold typically grows outside the view of the naked eye in warm, moist conditions. Often, mold is found in such areas as the walls and beneath the floors. Since these areas are not inspected during home inspections, mold is often missed when it does exist.
2. Did the sellers know about the mold before the sale?
If the sellers did know about the mold and you are able to prove they knew -or- prove that they should have known, you may have legal standing. This is certainly not an easy thing to prove, though.
Your best bet is to consult a local Lawyer for advice. Remember, when you are in the process of buying homes in Katy, remember to always have the home inspected. Even if you are purchasing Katy real estate from someone you know, whether a good friend, colleague, church-goer, etc.
