Major Growth in Fulshear, TX.

The Katy Sun newspaper wrote an article that was printed in the Feb 28, 2008 paper that gave information about the population boom taking place in the Fulshear, TX area. Much of the information is correct but one major error was in print and I would like to set the record straight.

The Katy Sun wrote, “Firethorne subdivision is located in the Fulshear ETJ (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction). This area is currently in the Katy ISD but within the next decade, students will be moved to the Lamar CISD.”

While it is true that Firethorne lies within the Fulshear ETJ, the Katy ISD district boundary runs through the back section of Firethorne.  Only the sections on the west side of that boundary, which is zoned to Lamar CISD now, will attend Lamar CISD once they are built in a few years.  Katy ISD is already building an elementary school within the Firethorne subdivision itself and all of the sections in the front of Firethorne will reamin zoned in the acclaimed Katy ISD.

As to the rest of the article, there is certainly no mistake that the population will experience massive growth in the town of Fulshear.  The Metro Light Rail System is making a move out that way and there are several different subdivisions that are now under construction in the town.  Fulshear has a current population of 716 and is projected to have 30,000+ by 2020.  That is an expected increase in population of 2,400 residents each year for the next 12-14 years.

Cheryl Stalinsky, Director of Community Development, said concerning the fast growth and community feel, “We are not going to do away with everything Fulshear, we’re taking great care to preserve the essence of Fulshear, Texas and its history. (Katy Sun, Feb 28, 2008)
